ART WORKS -- Vocalpoint - Living Unlimited: An Rx for Art

I can relate to this article in many ways after having been hospitalized various times & lacking sensory stimulation & relaxation due to environmental conditions.
Thanks to people like Diane Brown for using her own empathy-inspired idea to help other patients; having art around makes all the difference in the world no matter how big or small your world may be...

Thrones A'More -- OPEN FOR BUSINESS

...so my mom came back to town, and most of my sisters are here now, too.
They are in the housecleaning business, and if you are in the Lexington, KY area, they would really appreciate being hired for any needed, available housecleaning or maid service.
Mom is really, umm, thorough, so you will get your money's worth along with that "down-home" treatment that you might not get from some of the bigger franchises (not knocking them. I'm just sayin'...).
For what it's worth, I help in any way that I can, too, so if you need any other abstract jobs done that don't fit into the usual mold, it probably doesn't hurt to ask because I like to stay busy now that I am on disability.
As I used to say when I was in Customer Service:
"If I can't help you, I will find someone who can."
Thanks, and if you could help by re-posting this, I will personally appreciate it, also.
Best Wishes ALWAYS - Jen* =)
>For Maid Service, Call Violetta Adams at 415-578-8673.
*Serving Lexington-Fayette County Area ONLY.

Shipwrecked in the Boondocks

I am really disappointed that God's Country Radio is no longer being aired on public radio in my market (Lexington, KY), which has Air 1 Radio & K-LOVE Radio- 88.1 Somerset,Kentucky.  Not that I am against the other stations, but there are ARE conservative, COUNTRY MUSIC fans like me that want to hear positive, upbeat & uplifting songs without having to filter through some of the "other" stuff.
PLZ TAKE NOTE, 92.9 The Bear because I have been switching to 98.1 The Bull / WBUL Lexington a LOT lately -- not just because they have a local morning show but because they also play a VARIETY of Country songs not only from the current hits but from past years.
There is a LOT to choose from, and you have an opportunity to play songs that will either encourage or discourage your listening audience as well as make or break the careers of upcoming artists many of which have been sadly overlooked in this market.
In this difficult, economic time, I would think that playing songs that will motivate people rather than make every-day tasks more difficult would be beneficial not only to the listener but also to the station as well as be more profitable for all.
I'm not saying that playing songs that reflect BOTH ups & downs is bad, but playing certain songs over & over -- especially in the Winter -- that are not emotionally nor spiritually uplifting is detrimental, and as much as I have tried to remain loyal to one station, I have found that doing so was like being trapped in a a bad marriage; something that I am not capable of doing.
I understand that there is a requirement by certain powers that be to play specific artists & songs, but there has to be a compromise somewhere in the playlist.  ...and I believe that there should be a choice, so having two stations that play Country music in a market as big as Lexington & Central Kentucky should not be an issue as long as both stations are making every effort to balance the music being played & the advertising that is necessary to provide this service to the public.
I can only guess that certain parties have catered to a few persons & parties that have made noise about this issue, and although there is a large number of residents in Lexington & Central Kentucky that are from or have relatives in Eastern Kentucky, not everyone wants to hear "traditional" Country nor even Bluegrass (-gasp-) all of the time -- NOT even those that live there as I can attest to by being someone who falls into both groups (as a former resident of Eastern Kentucky with many friends & family in that region, also).
I think that "old" Country AND Bluegrass are GREAT, and they have their place especially since they are the foundation of anything considered "Country" being played today, and I am equally fond of "Souther Rock" & artists that have crossed over & have combined styles, so to exclude all of one group to focus on another, to me, is just shooting yourself in the foot.
I am one who can appreciate that there is a new generation of artists creating new music every day, since I am both a Country Music fan & a parent of a young adult, but from my experience in both categories, I can tell you that appreciating what is BOTH "old" AND "new" is what MAKES a person a Country Music fan.
Otherwise, you not only drive the audience to a different station but ALSO drive them to search for other genres then ultimately, always coming back to what is considered as "home," which IS Country Music -- only to find that lying, dying & cheating is what is being glamorized & glorified 24/7 STILL -- what our parents & grandparents continuously & repeatedly WARN us about.
...when there are a LOT of artists who have graduated & EVOLVED THEMSELVES to a higher plane.  They have explored new styles & themes based upon THEIR own life experiences but are often being overlooked & neglected by younger, "hotter" artists that are singing about the same old thing (SEX), TOO, which is only setting up the newer artists as well as fans for future disappointment, ALSO.
Yes.  Indeed, sex MAY sell -- as well as going off about a cheating husband or boyfriend, but SO DO SONGS ABOUT OTHER THINGS IN LIFE because that IS what is "REAL."
I am overjoyed & honored that my own daughter has grown into a Country Music fan in her own right, but what concerns me is that she will feel the same, future disappointment by the time that she is my age when she searches for a radio station on the dial for something that isn't squawking about hooking up then giving up without thinking that she has to settle for "Gospel" stations if that is not what she wants to hear all day EITHER -- or "Oldies" that are NOT Country -- or "Pop"/"Rock" stations that, when they DO play a song by a "Country" artist, they are remixed, so they can be disguised as something more "acceptable" to those not living in the South or Rural (-gasp- again) areas.
God forbid that we are not ashamed of the fact that we believe in God, Redemption & our COUNTRY, which before interstates & skyscrapers, did have literal ROOTS -- from things like trees & FAMILIES.
It would be really nice if Kentucky could rally around & agree upon something other than the Wildcats.  ...not that there is anything wrong with that, but where does that enthusiasm go after the games end?
We are being steamrolled in every area but basketball.
Meanwhile, I miss "My Old Kentucky Home."  ...or at least what I thought of what it would be by now.  ...what I saw it as when I came here as a young child.  ...what I thought I had stayed here for by the time that I became a mother.
...but then again, I am "not always right."
I was just under the impression that morals did not change, and Biblical principles were the foundation of society in these parts.
Where is THAT Kentucky?  Was it just a dream?
Every place has both good & bad characteristics.
I just wish that more of the good ones could have lasted longer without feeling like we sold out & settled for everything else in the process.

Que Sera...

Please note that this in no way is an endorsement by me  for parents to smoke in a vehicle nor even in their home where there are children present (nor by Leland Conway who I am sure agrees with me about this particular issue; however, I cannot officially state that I represent him nor anyone else except for myself).
....but pay attention to what he says about where the lines are drawn between government & what we own; what are individual "rights" as citizens are.  …and that he includes & is also recognizing the rights of children.  It does not have to be either/or in my opinion – either.
...and what we do with that responsibility is key.  Otherwise, the government will keep trying to "parent" the people when the people should at some point prove that they can make responsible moral & ethical choices for themselves -- AND their children.  Although I am a smoker, with all of the trash that I see on the ground by both non-smokers & smokers as well as the many parents that put their children’s health & welfare second by exposing them to second hand smoke in a vehicle when the child has no means of escape, I cannot say that our government is “evil” for trying to step in & do something about it.  …but should they have to?
I am old enough now to see that we all have to think that we will face some kind of “bad ‘karma’” if we do not do what is “right,” and if that means that we must endure what might seem like some “unfair” laws & regulations because we are not mature enough to police ourselves, then I am willing to acknowledge that there is a need for such measures to be present.
Actions create consequences, and whether we take this matter into our own hands or allow the government to choose for us, there are going to be just that:  consequences either way.
The question is which action are you willing to personally take responsibility for choosing?  Are you willing to give up your other rights, too?  ...or are you capable of proving to your fellow citizens/community, children & those that you have voted into office that you are willing to be accountable for your own actions?
I recently went to battle against some of my neighbors who are also fellow smokers about throwing their cigarette butts on the ground in front of our hallway as well as behind our apartments.  Although I can appreciate that people are attempting to respect those that are indoors by taking their smoke breaks outside, I am equally offended as someone who also chooses to smoke but does not litter & does renew/reuse/recycle.
As consumers, we all make messes that need to be cleaned up from preparing & eating meals to the literal disposal of our waste from the time that we are born.  …so feeling like less of a person for smoking does not come as easily to me as it does to some.  It is a lifestyle choice that I have made, but I truly try as much as possible to not punish others nor violate their rights with my own.
This recent conflict between what appears to be members of the same group brought to mind the word “community.”  Life on this planet is not possible without conflict as much as we might grow weary of it & even are driven to act out as a result.  Desperate times call for desperate measures sometimes, though, or are perceived to, but the truth of the matter is that we would not exist without opposites – as extreme & as much at odds as some of them may be.
The video for this week's No Apologizes hadn't been posted yet, which addresses the debate over whether suphedrine should be made available only through a doctor's prescription.  I will check back & post that as well as the Counterpoint video later.
Best Wishes ALWAYS - Jen*
P.S. I took a dinner break while pondering over the words that I had written, and I just listened to a phone interview with Gretchen Wilson on CMT Radio Live with Cody Alan.   The subject of our President’s recent State of the Union Address was discussed, and when Gretchen was asked her opinion concerning the economy & what she believed she would do to “fix” some problems, I could not have agreed more with her response.  To paraphrase, she basically said that we are all too afraid to express our opinions anymore (those of us that actually care & choose to be engaged in our society and not necessarily those that have nothing good to say at all, which is what I see a lot of on Facebook when topics for discussion are posted).  My bottom line opinion ABOUT  opinions is that we are a diverse society, so no two people are ever going to agree on everything, but we are all still entitled to them so long as we do not resort to violence, reckless behavior, destruction without reconstruction or abuse/neglect of what will benefit individuals & society as a whole (not limited to just human beings).  If we ever expec to continue to “live, laugh & love,” we are going to have to commit to letting ourselves recognize but respect differences without allowing OURSELVES to see what others see is us as assaults upon our character.  We are entitled to our feelings, but so are they.  …which is what I am sure is behind Barbara Walters’ idea for The View.  We all have one, and if we hope to survive ourselves before something “bigger” from somewhere else hurls into our orbit, we are going to have to learn to work together as a whole.  This planet is one unit, and yet it offers us every climate imaginable.  The least that we can do it try to do the same for it & each other.  It gives us life while letting gradual, tiny fragments & fractions of itself go to & through us -- and beyond.  It stays within a certain distance but still remains far enough away to allow other stars & planets do the same in their own way & time – each similar but having its own identity, and what works for one may work for another but not all.  Earth doesn’t always surrender gracefully, and sometimes not at all, but there are lessons to be learned from both volcanoes & oceans since we are the compromise & resulting product ourselves.  Principles are principles.  Morals are a constant, but ethics adapt.  …not always changing but accepting their fate in both victory & defeat.  What will be will be.

SAVE A DOG.

...AND THEY WILL SAVE YOU BACK.

MINE DID! :)
